COFFEE TABLE - What it says about you

I was taking a look at my coffee table this morning and I realized it may be saying alot about me. This is my primary space that I land when I need to slowly wake up in the morning with my cup of tea and it's the place I land at the end of the day when I need to wind down. Today on my coffee table are books, mail, notebooks, moisturizer, a candle, to-do lists, grocery lists and more lists(yea, I'm a list maker). I really do alot on my coffee table and if you didn't know me better you could think that I was a slob just by looking at my coffee table. The only time my coffee table looks nice and "decorated" is when I have company coming, other than that, it's usually cluttered with lots of stuff.

My current coffee table is wrought iron with a glass top, very nice, but functionally limited. Here is a picture of a coffee table that I love. I especially love the baskets for lots of storage(to hide all my junk). Maybe I'll find something similar at a thrift store or even Craigslist and be able to make my version of this $525.00 dollar one(Yikes!). Remember when looking for that great piece, it's all about being patient. I'll just add this picture to my list of things I'm looking for when scouring the yard sales this spring. Having a picture helps alot so you'll know exactly what you're looking for and won't have to go by memory alone when trying to find a similar piece.

Did you notice there are quite a few movies and TV shows that have made reference to the coffee table? Here are just a few that I came across:

The Big Bang Theory TV show. I don't think I've ever seen any other TV show have the cast sitting around a coffee table to eat dinner instead of eating at a dining or kitchen table:

Do you remember the movie "When Harry Met Sally" when the couple were fighting about the wagon wheel coffee table and how ugly it was? I have to say, I agree with that:

How about the Seinfeld episode when Kramer published his coffee table book about coffee tables - and the book turned into a coffee table. (I still laugh at that):

HERE ARE SOME OTHER UNIQUE AND CRAZY COFFEE TABLES:

FISH TANK COFFEE TABLE - Beautiful, but...doesn't it look like it would be a pain to clean?

PAC-MAN COFFEE TABLE: Brings back memories, pure nostalgia:

Last but not least, this is some kind of alien dog, but I love the unique-ness of this and that someone actually uses this in their home:

How many of you remember playing games on the coffee table as a kid, or eating pizza around the coffee table while watching a movie? What are some of your fond memories sitting around the coffee table?

UPSIDE DOWN BUILDING - TOO COOL!!

Some of you may be wondering why I'm writing about an upside down building and not my latest "frugal" project. Well, for those of you who have the word "tightwad" tattooed on your DNA like I do, you can appreciate this. I don't have a digital camera. Yes, I'm probably the only American who doesn't have one. I do have a very old 35mm camera that uses film, which for any project photos will be time consuming and not very effective for a daily blog. So, I'm currently looking for an(of course)inexpensive digital camera so I can share photos with you at lightning speed. So, in true "frugal fashion", I'm checking out Craigslist and some pawn shops to see what's available.

Until then, I thought I'd share with you a building located in Orlando Florida that was built upside down. I love this building, it's such an imaginative design. It's built to look like it was blown over by some form of Mother Nature. I think it is truly "COOL"!

Take a look at this photo, did you notice that even the palm trees are upside down? Also, on the right side of the photo, it appears to be resting on top of another building. Gotta love it!

Check out the street lights that actually work and turn on at night and the columns that look like they are about to crumble.

When you see this building in person, the longer you look at it, the more things you notice, it is really something to see.

Do you have any decorating ideas that are really "out there", "crazy" or completely "off the wall"? I'd love to hear about them!

2012 New Year's Resolution - Fulfilled!!

Happy New Year to everyone! Today is my first post on my new blog and this has fulfilled one of my New Year's Resolutions to start a decorating blog. I have a lot of decorating projects I want to do over the next year, and hopefully you'll join me in the fun!

Here is a list of some of the projects I want to do this year:
1) Strip, repaint and rejuvinate an old yard sale bureau
2) Antique my wrought iron bed frame
3) Organize my home office once and for all
4) Fix the framed mat on the dining room picture(my cheap-decorating-gone-bad moment)
5) Find some old unique bedside tables and refinish them.
6) Put down some sticky square linoleum in the kitchen to cover up the ugly ones.
7) Do something new with my old kitchen table and chairs(not sure what yet).
8) Recover some toss pillows.
9) Paint my metal file cabinet.
10) Start a flower garden so I can have fresh flowers in my home all the time.

What are some of your decorating goals for 2012?
